Gut Health Hacks with Fermented Food
I ran a 10-week experiment eating 6 servings of fermented foods a day and was VERY surprised by the results - especially biological age. Subscribe to Nourishable www.youtube.com/@Nourishable
Thanks to Viome for providing me with the testing kits for this experiment. As of April 2024, I've decided to no longer be part of the Viome affiliate program.

I designed my n-of-1 experiment to replicate this study by a team of researchers from Stanford in the Sonnenburg lab. They recruited eighteen healthy volunteers and tested inflammation levels in their blood and profiled their gut microbiome, which is a nice way of saying that sequenced the microbes in their poop. Then they guided their participants to ramp up their fermented food intake to six servings a day over a month, and then maintain that intake for six weeks. Then they tested their gut microbiome and blood again at the end of the study. After eating fermented foods, they found that lower levels of inflammation and higher diversity in the gut microbiome - together supporting that yes, eating fermented foods is linked with beneficial health markers. I’m getting a diversity of products with live, active cultures - kefir, yogurt, cultured cottage cheese, kombucha, though I’m avoiding ones with more than 5% juice, and a whole bunch of fermented veggies like kimchi, sauerkraut, fermented beets, and fermented carrots. Putting it all together, if we cherry pick which data to look at, we can conclude that my n-of-1 study also supports that fermented foods increase gut microbiome diversity and reduce inflammation, just like the Stanford study. But it’s important to point out that not all of my Viome metrics improved, and some actually got worse, like my gut lining health and butyrate production, and others were categorized as not optimal, like my cellular and energy efficiency and gas production. So this suggests that fermented foods are associated with some improved health markers, but they’re not a panacea. Lots of health claims focus on the live, active probiotics - so are the fermented food microbes moving into my gut to increase diversity? I didn’t measure the microbes in my fermented foods, but the Stanford study did, and they did not find the fermented food microbes taking up residence in participant’s microbiomes. Should you incorporate more fermented foods into your diet? There are other factors to consider when contemplating dietary change in addition to the potential health benefits: habit sustainability, cost, and whether you can overdo it. My takeaway from the longest diet study I’ve ever done is that there seem to be some health benefits of fermented foods on my gut microbiome, inflammation, and even biological age. I really enjoyed all types of fermented foods, well except for that water kefir that tasted like vomit, so it’s a dietary shift that I can see myself maintaining for many years to come.

The reason why the so-called ''health care system'' doesn't make an effort to convey this information to the public is..... Of course, there Is no Financial benefit to supporting a healthy population. The data will be ''mixed'' depending on WHO is sponsoring the data. As a type 1- diabetic, I can attest to the efficacy of ACV on a daily, as it routinely increases my insulin sensitivity and makes my insulin injections much more effective than insulin alone. This is my own personal experience, and I am sure I'm not the only diabetic seeing similar results.

I heard from the soon-to-be "American Diabetes Society" that the more accurate replacement of BMI is the "waist circumference to height "ratio. For example, a waist circumference of 30 inches and a height of 66 inches would result in a wc/ht ratio of 0.45. A ratio under 0.50 is deemed to be healthy.

Soak the steel cuts overnight, then change the water, ratio is, 1 cup of oats to 3 cup of water , then i use a rice cooker. About 10 minutes through, i add cinnamon and mix it. Then the leftover, put it in fridge..you have 3 bowls of oatmeal for days. I use Trader joes organic steel cut oats.

Some articles i have read says that exercise after eating redirects blood away from digestive system to the muscles being exercised, for them this is not good since digestion needs to be prioritized after eating

With toxicity in mind, you'd think farmers using these chemicals would be dropping dead in epic numbers if they were really that dangerous. I know a famer in Canada using chemical sprays on his crops and he's healthy as can be at 75 years old. His wife, my grandma, is also very healthy at 80 years old. I think it's great that we're untrusting of chemicals and trying to shut these practices down, but I think we worry more than needed on this topic.

Thank you sooooooo much for your in depth and transparent analysis of Isagenix. You saved me a lot of time & money on not falling for their marketing gimmicks and their overpriced products. I’ll just go back to meal replacements from local or online sources, and just prep my meals like I was doing before. Isagenix is also a Pyramid company that tries to recruit people with monetary incentives for buyout bf their products, companies meeting to win cash prizes and trips that are funded by your weight loss and getting others to join your team which then becomes a Pyramid sales team through Isagenix.

This is what is known as professional jealousy. People like this just annoy everyone. Not helpful. Gundry is not perfect because nobody is perfect. He is willing to LEARN and REVISE. Let me suggest that she write her own book and fill it with thousands of footnotes and references like Gundry does. If she does, I will read it. And I will keep reading Gundry...working on the Gut Check now, and I'm blown away. Stay away from traditional allopathic "doctors". At the very least, if you go to a doctor go to one that practices "functional medicine" or "integrative medicine".

Dump the white flour and oj. Nothing will save you from a glucose spike if you’re eating things with no fiber and they are high on the glycemic index. The reason it worked with salad is because there was fiber and protein in it. You can’t equate a OJ and bagel with healthy salad and say ‘maybe’ about acv. It’s not magic, it’s science.

I started eating organic rolled oats for breakfast a few months after experiencing various gut issues on and off for more than a decade. It almost instantly supported my gut health. After about a month I started eating low carb breakfast instead, or did intermittent fasting, and within two weeks my gut severally objected. So I went to my organic rolled oats oatmeal breakfast and my gut was fine again. After another couple of weeks I couldn't get the organic rolled oats so was forced to use instant oats, or porridge oats as they are called here, and it took me about a week to realise that I was snacking or eating something more within an hour after breakfast, every single day. As soon as possible I went back to the organic rolled oats and the cravings stopped again. I eat mine with honey and cinnamon, sometimes sometimes with berries, and I only use water to cook them in. No milk of any kind. I stay full for about 4 hours on roughly 1-1 1/4 cup uncooked oats. The difference between the two types of oats was huge for me.

Thank you this was helpful. I've always been confused by the need for the Ozempic which I believe is a GLP-1 Agonists which mean they bind to the receptor for GLP. So why not just give GLP-1 ? is it because the natural form of GLP-1 degrades very quickly while the Ozempic sits on the receptor and stimulates it for hours upon hours? Therefore its long lasting as opposed to the endogenous form of GLP-1. Is my thinking correct?
